A Father’s Love

Nearly 15 years ago, Scott Fura, of Syracuse, New York, was introduced to the Ronald McDonald House Charities organization when his son, Scotty, lost his arm in a tragic accident. The family traveled to Shriners Hospital for Children in Massachusetts to have Scotty fitted for a prosthetic arm, and found a temporary home at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield.

“During a time when we needed to concentrate on our family, having the Ronald McDonald House as a place to stay, where you are also provided meals, gave us some comfort in our time of need,” said Scott. “The House also gave us the opportunity to speak and reflect with other families who were going through a similar situation. The staff truly cared and treated us like family.”

After such a positive experience, Scott became committed to giving back locally. Along with his kids Scotty and Carly, Scott volunteers with us and helps with projects around the House. And as a member of the Syracuse Police SWAT Team, Scott and his teammates organize an annual golf tournament to raise funds and awareness for our organization.

“We know that having a place to stay near where your child is being treated can help relieve the burden of being in an unfamiliar location. We want to help ensure families traveling to Syracuse for their child’s care have a wonderful place to stay at the CNY Ronald McDonald House.”
